The clock is ticking down to the end of the world, supposedly predicted by the Maya thousands of years ago. The Internet has over 1 billion pages devoted to this doomsday prophecy, and there have been hundreds of new books published about our impending doom. This is a topic that just about everybody is talking about and is rolling around curiously in the back of our minds. Could this actually be the end of the world? To add some scientific perspective to the conversation, E&S Digital Theater Productions has produced a brand new fulldome show called 2012: Ancient Skies Ancient Mysteries. And for a limited time, E&S is offering discounted pricing for customers who license our new 2012 show, along with Houston Museum of Natural Science's show, 2012: Mayan Prophecies.
2012: Ancient Skies Ancient Mysteries. Centered around the legends and mysteries ancient cultures saw in the night sky, this 25 minute show will explore the knowledge these people discovered and the importance of their connection with the stars. Audiences will see common threads to these observations across cultures and see just how close the ancient Greeks came to our current astronomical understanding, and ask whether or not the Maya actually predicted the end of the world on December 21st, 2012.
In Houston Museum of Natural Science's 20 minute show, 2012: Mayan Prophecies, Viewers see the ancient Mayan pyramids and cities Palenque, Chichen Itza and Uxmal, each a mysterious site where astronomers watched the skies for signs of the future. Putting together intricate, interlocking calendars that showed the year 2012 as the end of time, the Mayans may have foretold our destiny.
For theaters wanting a longer experience for their audiences, these shows complement each other quite nicely, since Ancient Skies Ancient Mysteries traces the history of our understanding of the universe and how we applied this knowledge to the construction of detailed structures around the Earth, the creation of calendars (including the Mayan calendar), and the growth of Greek astronomical science. Mayan Prophecies explores the world and mindset of the Maya in much more detail, taking audiences to various historic locations in Central America, and immersing them in the Mayan culture and society. Playing Ancient Skies Ancient Mysteries followed by Mayan Prophecies will immerse audiences in the multifaceted story of the Mayan "prediction" of the end of the world.
For orders placed between now and December 21, 2012 we will offer both shows for less than the price of a typical new release fulldome feature from Evans & Sutherland. Both shows will have an updated soundtrack to allow them to be used after December 21st, and will refer to the Mayan prophecies in past tense.
